Hola!

My name is Júlia, I’m 23 years old, and I was born and raised in Girona, a gorgeous town in Northern Catalonia.

I have always been an avid language learner. I am a native Catalan and Spanish speaker with a C2 CEFR level in English and A1 in German. I have also studied French for 6 years and have recently started learning Dutch. My background in Humanities has also equipped me with great knowledge in art, history, and literature. Now, my mission is to share this knowledge through my own culture and language: Catalan.

I consider myself a curious and enthusiastic person. One of my biggest passions is traveling because it allows me to explore and appreciate the small things that make each culture unique.

My Journey

In August 2021, I decided to start teaching Catalan to foreigners because I noticed there was a lack of accessible online resources to learn it. And so my Instagram account, dailycatalan, was born. Now, we are a tight-knit community of thousands of people who love and cherish the Catalan language and culture.

My content has helped numerous people in their Catalan-learning journey. However, I soon realized that I wanted to reach out to an even greater number of students, so I decided to start making online courses. Convenience is my top priority when it comes to my students. After all, learning a language should not be a burden but something enjoyable!

Why I Do It

Catalan is a language that has faced many struggles throughout the course of history, such as censorship. Despite these challenges, it’s still standing strong and spoken by over 10 million people!

Many students come to me saying they wish to move to Catalonia or other Catalan-speaking territories, wanting to be able to blend into the culture and have better job prospects. Others also look forward to reconnecting with their roots, or being able to speak with their Catalan partners and spouses!

These are great motivations to learn Catalan, and there is nothing that gives me more satisfaction than helping my students reach their goals.

Join me on this exciting journey and let’s learn Catalan together. Som-hi!

Some fun facts about me

I love cooking

Food is a fundamental pillar in Catalan culture. Growing up, I saw my grandmas Rosa and Càndida cook delicious meals for the whole family. They taught me how to make traditional Catalan dishes such as canelons and crema catalana from a very young age. I firmly believe there’s nothing better in life than sharing a good pa amb tomàquet (bread rubbed with tomato, olive oil, and salt) with your loved ones.

Music is everything to me

I started taking piano lessons when I was 5 years old. I am not a professional by any means, but playing an instrument to me is like speaking a language: it allows you to understand things and communicate with people in magical ways. I literally can’t do anything without playing music in the background: studying, working, cleaning, working out…you name it!

I’m a dog person

Dogs have always been a part of our family. I grew up with my Yorkshire Terrier Flor (Flower in Catalan) and now I have another buddy, a Dachshund named Fum (Smoke in Catalan) whom I love very much. When I was 7 years old, I started reading about dogs non-stop and learned all the breeds by heart. I even told my parents my dream job would be to own a hotel for dogs!
